Chief U.S. Mint Engraver Frank Gasparro created the distinctive profile of America's 34th President. The dollar's reverse depicts a majestic eagle landing on the moon with the earth in the background. Changes to the Eisenhower dollar were recommended for the observation of the nation's Bicentennial in 1976. Through a nationwide competition, a design by Dennis R. Williams was selected which depicted the Liberty Bell superimposed on the moon. Minted for only two years, 1975 through 1976, this dual-dated Bicentennial coin symbolizes the first two centuries of America's history. The coin has been layered in 24-Karat Pure Gold, then colorized through a proprietary process to commemorate man's first landing on the moon. The coin sets secure in a round bezel.
